Proper civilization of the country believe to be begin with the Indo – Aryans with Buddhism being introduced in 307 BC by Arahath Mahinda gives a supreme expression to its religious values and boasts of a rich culture of 2500 years, constructed massive domed shrines (Sthupas/ Dagabos), extensive monastic complexes with multi storied buildings, gigantic sculptures, waste cave temples with exquisite mural paintings, pleasure gardens (Sigiriya), above all ancient Sinhalese were able to build huge reservoirs dating back to 4th century BC makes this island resplendent.
